Weeds Wins the Battle on The Hill
The fourth event of the 2016 Golf Days UK Norfolk Tour was hosted by Barnham Broom Golf Club on Friday 13th May. The usual strong field of players were set to compete over the Hill Course and with a stiff breeze and cold temperatures; the conditions were anything but easy.
Armed with GDScore Live Golf Scoring – which enables players to see how they stand in the field at any point on the course – the first groups took to the course to do battle for top quality prizes from official tour supplier, Nike Golf.
Early leaders included Nigel Goude, Bryan Smy and Thetford winner Joshy Ring. After nine holes it looked as though Ring was putting together another great round to potentially secure back to back victories on the tour. Chris Ingram was also compiling a solid round and made the turn at even par to his handicap of 5.
Josh Weeds from Bawburgh Golf Club was steadily pulling together an excellent round of golf in the conditions and as most of the field struggled over the closing holes, Weeds continued to find pars to post a score of +3 to his handicap of 2 to take victory on his second event of the Norfolk Tour.
One of the early starters, Gordon Maclean had returned his score of +5 and as the rest of the field faded his position improved and found himself in a tie for second with Adam Saunders, Nick Stinson and Chris Ingram. After count back, Saunders grabbed second spot and Stinson third.
The nearest the pin winners were Ru Barlow on the long second and Richard Bunn on the 17th.
For his win, Weeds collects 100 Order of Merit points, a prize from Nike Golf worth up to £130 and a £75 Loudmouth Golf Voucher.
After four events, Adam Saunders now heads the Order of Merit, closely followed by Chris Ingram. A players best five OoM scores make up the final leaderboard and with a host of players having made impressive starts to the season it looks as though we are set for a thrilling second half to the season!
