Goude Gets First Win at a Demanding Benton Hall
The sixth event of the Golf Days UK Essex Tour 2013 – The Race to Celtic Manor was hosted by Benton Hall on Friday 26th July. With Benton’s club championship being hosted the following day, the course was in superb condition and provided a good test of golf for all that played.
Playing in his third event of the season, it was David Goude – son of 2012 Essex Tour winner, Nigel – who took the spoils with 34 points. Goude secured his win on countback from tour regular and two time winner this season, Dave Parry. Goude was trailing Parry after 17 holes, but managed to take the par 5 18th apart with a 3 wood and 8 iron to line up an eagle putt. There was no eagle for Goude, but a birdie meant a score of 34 points had been posted and with Parry just missing a birdie putt himself, handed the win to Goude.
Goude’s victory was made even sweeter as he was sporting his ‘Shagadelic Pink’ Loudmouth trousers which meant that as well as winning a pair of Nike Golf Shoes, he also walked away with the bonus prize of £150 to spend at Loudmouth UK.
Third place also had to be decided by countback as two players – Glenn Maguire and Kamal Lakhani – had both returned scores of 32 points and it was Essex and Surrey tour player Lakhani who pipped Maguire with a better back 9 score. The nearest the pin competitions were won by Vladimir Hodur on the sixth and Tony Mann on the 13th. You can view the scores and finishing positions from the day by clicking here
Dave Parry has now taken over the lead in this year’s Order of Merit, but with three events to go a chasing pack is lining up to take the top spot and secure a set of custom fit irons from tour sponsor, Chris Potter Golf.
The next stop on tour is the second and final Major of the season at Frinton Golf Club and we anticipate to again see changes in leaderboard as we near the end of 2013 schedule. All the players are aiming to finish the season inside the top fifteen on the leaderboard as this will earn them a place in the Grand Final at the West Essex golf club where the Golf Days UK Essex Tour Champion for 2013 will be crowned!
