Dunn takes the July Title by 6 points as many fall victim to the tough Lakes course
Crowne Plaza Five Lakes was the July venue for the Golf Days UK Essex Tour and it proved a difficult challenge. With narrow fairways and deep rough on the Lakes course, only two players made Stableford scores in the thirties. Current leader of the tour Nigel Goude achieved 30 points but Stock Brook Manor member, John Dunn stormed to victory with his score of 36 points. In third position was Bill O’Donovan with his score of 27 points. The longest drive was awarded to Marc Burroughs with his drive of 234 yards being one of the few that remained on the fairway of the tricky 13th hole. The nearest the pin was won by Nigel Goude with a stunning approach to the 8th hole, finishing just a few feet from the cup.
The current top 3 in The Race to Stoke Park have all played in the first 6 events. Nigel Goude still holds on to a large lead with his best 5 scores totalling 161 which is 14 points clear of second place David Roth. Craig Warren is just a point behind David on 136 points for his best 5. However, there are many players that have recorded good scores in their appearances but have yet to post the five required to become Tour Champion. Most notably are Dave Parry and Kamal Lakhani on 129 points and 127 points respectively after 4 rounds.
The next event on the Race to Stoke Park is on Sunday 19th August at Benton Hall Golf Club with tee times from 1pm. Sign up by phoning 01603 505533 or click here to sign up online.
