Great Yarmouth, Great Golf, Grrrreatrex!
Golf Days UK launched their brand new Norfolk Tour for 2013 and 40 players lined up ready to brave the conditions and earn some points for their order of merit total. With temperatures barely above freezing, a persistent wind and even the odd snow shower it made for some of the toughest conditions ever in a Golf Days UK Tour Event. It was the members of Great Yarmouth and Caister, well-rehearsed at playing in tricky weather, who bagged all the prizes on the day and seemed unaffected as some fantastic golf was observed.
Steve Greatrex making his debut in a Norfolk Tour event was the deserved winner on the day with 38 points off his ¾ handicap of 4. He will be cut a full stroke for his future events on the tour but starts the season in the strongest position with 100 order of merit points. For winning the event, Steve also received a pair of Loudmouth Golf Trousers of his choice and a pair of Adidas Powerband 2 Golf Shoes supplied by Chris Potter Golf. Golf Days UK Tour regular Cain Esherwood also a member at Caister started his 2013 campaign with a very steady 36 points playing off 9 and claimed 95 Order of Merit points and a Cobra Wedge. Completing the member’s domination was 1 handicapper, Thaine Hacon with 35 points, who received 92 Order of Merit Points and chose a Nike hat for his third prize. Thaine took third spot on countback with an impressive 3 under gross back nine to amass 22 points against James Cundy’s 16. The full leaderboard can be viewed by clicking below.
There were two nearest the pin awards on the day and these were won by Thaine Hacon on the 7th and Steve Greatrex on the 12th.
The new scoring system for 2013 means that players are aiming to earn as many order of merit points as they can from their best five finishes during the 10 events. The top fifteen in the leaderboard after 10 events will then qualify for the final at Sheringham Golf Club and the winner of the final will be crowned champion and win the trip to Gleneagles Resort, Scotland in the Ryder Cup year. In addition to that, the player with the highest order of merit score from their five events will win a set of custom fit irons supplied by Chris Potter Golf. Last year’s tour runner up Adam Saunders was in action again finishing in 5th place, using his prize from last year, brand new custom fitted Titleist AP2’s from Chris Potter.
The second event on the Golf Days UK Norfolk Tour 2013 is on the 22nd March at Weston Park Golf Club. This event sold out last year so sign up early to avoid disappointment. Sign up online at Norfolk Tour 2013
