Goude pulls away in the Race to Stoke Park
The fifth event of the Golf Days UK Essex Tour 2012 took place at Stapleford Abbotts on a blustery June afternoon. The Abbotts course was in excellent condition but the punishing rough and the strong gusts made scoring challenging on the day. Only four players managed to score 30 points or more. Newcomer Martin Donoghue narrowly missed out on the prizes with 30 points. Regular contender Kevin Goude picked up third prize with his 31 points. Runner up was taken by Kamal Lakhani with 34 points which puts him in a very strong position after 4 rounds, but no-one could stop Nigel Goude extending his lead at the top of the leaderboard. Playing in his fifth event Nigel took the Stapleford Abbotts event with 36 points playing off his ¾ handicap of 5.
Golf Days UK ran two longest drive competitions at this event with one for single figure handicappers and one for double figure handicappers. The winner of the double figure category was Anthony Parkinson with his drive down the Par 5 18th measuring 247 yards and big hitter Kevin Goude took the single figure award with his measuring 256 yards. The nearest the pin prize was won by Mary-Anne De Cruz, with her delightful approach to the Par 3 13th hole.
To win the Golf Days UK Essex Tour players take their best five stableford scores. Apart from Nigel Goude, players who have completed their five rounds already also include Craig Warren and David Roth but neither has managed the consistent scoring of Goude.
