It’s a dead heat in the race to Turnberry after Ashton leaps up the leaderboard
43 players joined Golf Days UK for their third event on the Race to Turnberry at Barnham Broom Valley course. Conditions proved too difficult for most to make a charge amidst the April showers but Barnham Broom member Dean Ashton had no problem carding 37 points and winning the event. Dean, recently cut to a ¾ handicap of 5, now joins Great Yarmouth and Caister member, Josh Brooks at the top of the leaderboard with 104 points after 3 events. Nick Barrett, also of Barnham Broom, lies just behind the top two with 102 points.
Joining Dean in the prizes at Barnham Broom was second place Peter Ogden, a scratch golfer scoring 34 points in his first Golf Days UK event. Third place was awarded to Michael Howard for his 33 points which has moved him to 7th place in the overall leaderboard. There was also a nearest the pin prize which went to Josh Brooks for a delightful approach to the downhill 7th hole, which landed a couple of feet from the cup. The longest drive was won by Peter Ogden with his 265 yard drive managing to hold the fairway on the par 5, 8th hole.
At all Golf Days UK events there is an impressive prize table supplied by Chris Potter Golf. Barnham Broom was no exception and players in the prizes were able to choose from a selection of golfing gifts. Winner Dean Ashton, chose a pair of Adidas adicross golf shoes as his prize on the day. The main prize up for grabs on the tour is the trip to Turnberry Resort, Scotland to experience golf on the Ailsa course an Open Championship venue. This prize will be for the player with the five best scores over the 10 events and the runner up will bag a set of custom fit irons also supplied by Chris Potter Golf. Only the best five scores count so players are keen to get as many rounds as they can and with 7 left to go, anything could happen.
The next opportunity to get a score on the board in the Race to Turnberry is Friday 25th May at Royal Norwich Golf Club with tee times from 2pm.
