Somerside Secures First Win With Dazzling Display!
Reigate Hill Golf Club played host to the third event of the 2013 Surrey Tour – The Race to Stoke Park on a pleasant April afternoon. Scoring conditions were good with a number of players posting low scores and it was James Somerside who took to honours.
Somerside, playing in his second event of the season returned a very impressive 41 points playing off his ¾ handicap of 6 took the win from tour newcomer and playing partner Bertie Chambers who scored an equally impressive 39 points off his ¾ handicap of 4. Third place was between Peter Boylan and Graham Taylor, both scoring 37 points with Boylan coming out on top winning on countback. All players scoring over 36 points have earned themselves a handicap cut for the remainder of the tour, under the tour rules each point over 36 warrants a 0.5 cut.
Somerside chose a dozen of the new TaylorMade Lethal golf balls as his prize and also receives the £75 Loudmouth Golf voucher to spend. A special mention must be given to Lingfield Park winner Duncan Mackie on sporting his new orange and blue Loudmouth trousers teamed with matching polo, jumper and socks!
The nearest the pin competition was won by Neil Willis, who narrowly took the prize from Tour leader, Kevin Wellings on the 8th hole.
Kevin Wellings still leads the tour with his score of 284 Order of Merit points, followed closely by Duncan Mackie on 277. A players ‘best five’ OoM points after the tenth event will make up the final leaderboard and with the winner of the OoM winning a set of custom fit irons and the top fifteen earning a spot in the Grand Final at Kingswood Golf Club, there is a long way to go and we expect to see some leaderboard changes along the way!
The next event is at Wildwood Golf Club on Friday May 17th, to sign up for this event click here
