Scott Runs Riot at Romford
The first Major event of the Golf Days UK Essex Tour 2013 – The Race to Celtic Manor was hosted by Romford Golf Club on Friday 26th April. A strong field of thirty players took to the course to compete for enhanced Order of Merit points and it was Ben Scott who came out on top with a superb score of 39 points off his ¾ handicap of 7. Playing in his second event, Scott dominated the field and won by a comfortable three points from 2013 tour regular, Glen Maguire, who posted a steady 36 points.
Essex Tour newcomer, John Mcinernay secured third place with 35 points and many of the players put decent performances on a course that was in fantastic condition for late April. The two nearest the pins were won by Helena Steward (6th hole) and Keith Hunter (17th hole). Full results of the Romford event
Event winner, Scott chose a pair of Adidas Samba golf shoes and also receives a pair of Loudmouth Trousers – which he has already ordered and will be showing off the ‘Island Girls’ pattern at future events. Ballards Gore winner, Jason Skelton wore his ‘Danger’ trousers for the first time and as the tour progresses we will see more and more of the winners on the course in their Loudmouth gear!
As this was a Major event – one of two in the season long schedule – the Order of M]erit points were enhanced, meaning all players secured a strong amount of OoM points, but Jason Skelton still sits at the top of the leaderboard with a 22 point lead from Helena Steward. A players best five Order of Merit scores will make up the final leaderboard after the tenth event so even after four events, the Race to Celtic Manor is anyone’s for the taking.
The next event on the 2013 Essex Tour is at Crowne Plaza Resort Colchester – Five Lakes on Friday 17th May with a first tee time of 14:00. You can sign up for the next event by clicking here
