Saunders does it again at Swaffham!
The ninth and penultimate event of the Golf Days UK Norfolk Tour was held at Swaffham Golf Club on 20th September. Swaffham was a favourite on the 2012 tour and once again was in superb condition and enjoyed by all. With super slick greens and tough pin positions, three and even four putts were not uncommon for many players.
Going into this event, a stack of players were aiming for the top spot in the Order of Merit – a position held by Adam Saunders for many months – but it was Saunders who posted a superb 37 points to win the event and record his third victory of the year.
At the start of the event, all eyes were on Bruce McQaude who playing in his fifth event of the tour, was in prime position to overtake Saunders and lead the Order of Merit going into the final event. McQuade could only manage 32 points off his handicap of 1 and with Saunders going strong in the last group and a par on the tough 18th secured his third win of the tour and has almost secured the Order of Merit and a brand new set of custom fit irons from tour sponsor Chris Potter Golf. The only person who can catch him is McQaude, who must win the last event of the tour to take the spoils.
Three players scored 36 points and it was Mike Howard who came out on top on countback from Iain Yule and Cain Esherwood. The nearest the pin competition were won by Jon Batten on the 12th and Neil Featherstone on the 16th.

Everyone’s attention is now drawn to the final event of the 2013 Norfolk Tour at Barnham Broom where players are competing to make the top fifteen in the overall leaderboard to qualify for the complimentary Grand Final at Sheringham Golf Club. Mathematically, there are 28 players who can still qualify and with a bunched up leaderboard from tenth position down, an exciting event is in store! Only fifteen players will make the final, so with the potential of a sudden death playoff to secure the spots this is one event not to miss.
The Barnham Broom event is on Friday 18th October and will include the end of year meal, Order of Merit Presentation and the video highlights and bloopers from the season! You can sign up for this event here
