Allchorne away to a winning start in the Race to Celtic Manor
The first event of the Golf Days UK Essex Tour 2013 was played at the Essex Golf and Country Club where despite the recent poor weather the course held up very well. With many players a little rusty from the winter break stableford scores proved difficult to amass. It was David Allchorne who took this early opportunity and won the first event with a stableford score of 32 points off his ¾ handicap of 11. David chose a Cobra Puma travel bag from the great selection of prizes supplied by Chris Potter Golf. He is also the first player to claim his additional prize, a pair of golf trousers of his choice supplied by new tour sponsor Loudmouth Golf. The new Order of Merit system means David sits on top of the overall Race to Celtic Manor leaderboard with 100 points.
In second place on the day was the 2012 Essex Tour Champion Nigel Goude, back to defend his crown. With 31 points he has made the steady start he was looking too and sits in second place with 95 points in the order of merit table. In third spot and earning himself 92 order of merit points was Mick Thompson, also back for his second year, with his score of 30 points. There were a number of players just behind the top 3, including Terry Hewitt with 29, who has ensured a solid start to the 2013 season. The top fifteen players at the end of 10 events will play in the final for a chance to stay at the five star Celtic Manor Resort and to play the Ryder Cup course, The Twenty Ten. Also new for 2013 are two Nearest the Pin Competitions. These were won by newcomer Rob Kemp on the 127 yard 5th hole and Michael Javon on the 177 yard 14th.
