Three Rivers win for Maguire
The ninth an penultimate event of the Golf Days UK Essex Tour 2013 – The Race to Celtic Manor was played at Three Rivers Golf Club on a blustery September afternoon. The course was in fantastic condition and the quirky layout proved a tough test for many.
With the current tour leader not playing this event, there was a real opportunity for many players to close the gap on the coveted first spot and also to make the top fifteen places to secure their spot in the Grand Final.
Glen Maguire seized the opportunity and returned an impressive 37 points off his ¾ handicap of 9 to take the victory by 4 points. Second place went to Ricky Portas, who playing in his fourth event had put himself in the mix for the top fifteen. Third spot went to tour regular Mick Thompson. The nearest the pin competitions were won by Jason Skelton on the 9th and Bill O’Donnavan on the 15th. View all the results and finishing positions from the day by clicking here
Following his win, Maguire has jumped to second spot in the Order of Merit and is now only two points behind current leader Dave Parry. The winner of the Order of Merit will receive a set of custom fit irons from tour sponsor, Chris Potter Golf. With five players still able to get to first place, the last event of the tour at Woolston Manor is set to be a cracker!
There are also many players who can still make the top fifteen to qualify for the Grand Final at the West Essex Golf Club. At the Grand Final it will be a straight shoot out to
see who is crowned the Golf Days UK Essex Tour Champion for 2013 and will win the trip to the Celtic Manor Resort in Wales to stay in the five star hotel and play two rounds of golf, one of which will be on the 2010 Ryder Cup Course, ‘The TwentyTen’.
